I recently came across this gem of a highlight video that I made of our intramural team in college. Honestly, I had forgotten that I even made it. A little background, we used to take our intramurals very seriously. Our team in the video had two guys with their names in the AHSAA record books for being in the top 10 in career scoring. Anyways, I’d always try to get someone at our games to tape us, and I would review the film later. This video is a compilation of our highlights over the course of that particular season (I believe it was 2005). It’s fun to go back and watch this now.
If you follow me on twitter then you likely saw my updates the last couple of days regarding @kcscrawford and I getting our first iPhones. We are Verizon converts that just couldn’t handle the peer pressure anymore. In all seriousness, I don’t know how I managed without one for so long! read more…
As you’ve all seen from my last post, I spent last weekend at LINQ Bootcamp. Well, I’ve since written a review of the weekend, which you can find here. Here’s the Cliff’s note version: it was an awesome experience and not just because I learned a lot about LINQ. That’s all I’m giving you for free… you’ll have to read the article for the rest.
On July 25th and 26th there is an event in Birmingham called LINQ Boot Camp. During this event we will go through “Programming LINQ” chapter by chapter. The event is hosted by the Birmingham Software Developers Association and is completely free to all who attend (though I believe the number of attendees is limited to about 40 people). Anyone that volunteers to present will also receive a free copy of the book. The event will run from about 9 to 5 on both days, and I believe lunch will be provided. read more…
So there has been quite a bit going on since my last blog post. For those of you that have not heard from twitter, I’ve recently started a new job as software engineer at Jack Henry and Associates. JHA is a software company that acts as a one stop shop for banking solutions. It is a great opportunity and I feel extremely blessed to have it. read more…
Last Wednesday, Katie surprised me by signing us up for something a little out of the ordinary. She had heard about a cool new establishment called Paint-n-Party that was having a special night where $10 of each $35 fee went to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society’s Skipper Fund (read about it here). That just leaves $25 to cover the cost of the materials, and did I mention that there was free food and wine? Needless to say I was very impressed with the cost of the event. read more…
The following message showed up in my inbox this afternoon. Because I’ve written about Rudder in the past, I figured that it was best that I also share this email. I think it is very respectable that they were so quick to admit the wrongdoing and show their plans for preventing it from happening again. What do you think?
Today, 732 Rudder users were sent alerts via e-mail, which could have potentially included
information like account balances, transactions and bills of different users. This issue was not
the result of a data breach, but due to a software issue in our program that generates emails. It is
important to know that Rudder has “read only” access to your account balances and transactions
and we do not store account credentials like user names, passwords, or your personal
information like name, address or social security number. read more…

Update: In light of the fact that I have recently started a new job, I will not be able to come to Friday at Codestock. However, I’m planning on driving up either Friday night or Saturday morning, so I’ll be there all day Saturday. I must say I’m pretty excited about it though!
The following quote is from the book The Mythical Man-Month. This book is currently on my reading list, and one that I’m certainly looking forward to.
Why is programming fun? What delights may its practioner expect as his reward? read more…
When I chose Computer Science as my major field of study, I had no idea just what exactly that entailed. I found computers to be especially interesting while in high school, but never experienced anything deeper than at the user level. I had no idea how computers worked and my only experience programming was in BASIC on an old VTech toy laptop. Of course, I did not realize at the time that I was, in fact, programming. read more…
