Resolutions – January update
Here we are one month into the new year, and I really don’t have much to show for it! In fact, I’ve actually gained a little weight since the start of the new year. I’ve also been treading water with my saving goals. The one area that I have been doing good in is my professional reading goal (have been making good progress on Code Complete). Just about any other way you look at it though, this year has been very disappointing so far. The good news is that can change very quickly.
Things are getting very serious on Monday. That is when Katie and I are starting p90x Lean. We have committed to doing the program all out (including following the nutrition guidelines). From what I can tell, this could have a serious impact on a number of my resolutions for the year. Below is my list of resolutions (excluding professional goals), with the ones potentially touched by p90x in red.
- Run a 5k in <25 minutes.
- Run a 10k in <55 minutes.
- Run a half-marathon in <110 minutes
- Get weight down to 190 by September and maintain through December (I expect some big progress here)
- Complete a fitness program (p90x or similar)
- save up for a new (used) car (following the nutrition guide will mean more eating in or less $ spent eating out)
- get braces
- improve conversational skills (yeah, it’s a stretch, but it could be a conversation starter)
- read New Testament
- start doing things early in the morning again (we are planning on doing the workouts in the morning)
As you can probably tell, I’m taking this p90x thing pretty seriously. I’ve known folks that have completed the program and the results truly are astounding. Of course I know many more people that have attempted the program but never finished it. Guess we’ll just have to see which category I fit in!
