If you follow me on twitter then you likely saw my updates the last couple of days regarding @kcscrawford and I getting our first iPhones. We are Verizon converts that just couldn’t handle the peer pressure anymore. In all seriousness, I don’t know how I managed without one for so long!

The iPhone is my first smartphone, and it has lived up to all of my expectations so far. My favorite thing thus far is probably the threaded txt conversations. I love having email available on the go but the lack of push support for gmail accounts is frustrating. I bought the GPush application to help out with that, but that app just feels a bit too hacky.

I’ve also been making the rounds in the app store. My favorite app so far is definitely the facebook app. It feels like a native iPhone app. Twitterfon is solid and I like the AT&T My Wireless app as well. The Weather Channel app is sufficient.. It gets the job done. So far the only app that I’ve paid for has been GPush which, while not my favorite, it’s worth the $0.99.

I’m also pretty excited about how easy it is to create custom ring tones from mp3s that I already own. The lack of this functionality was a big problem that I’ve had with Verizon for years. It feels good to have more control over the phone and media that I own.

I’d be interested in hearing what apps you love. What apps are worth the time and money (if they aren’t free)? Also what kind of cool things are people doing with their phones? Yesterday I ordered lunch from Chipotle using their iPhone app, which was awesome!

The WordPress app is pretty good, but it’s a little too lightweight at the moment. For example, I had to use the web interface to add the [more] break to the post. It’s a nifty little app to use for quick posts on the go though. You can also see comments on the blog using it. I’ll definitely keep it around.

I prefer TweetDeck much more than Twitterfon.
I’ll probably have to invest in the Push app for the google accounts.

Nightstand(free) is the awesomest clock app
Bump(free): if you and another person have an iPhone and have the app running and bump your hands together that are holding your iPhones, it will automatically transmit your contact data between the iPhones.

Civiliziation Revolution(paid), Dropship(free) and Galcon(paid) are highly recommended games.

Amazon.com(free) and Kindle for iPhone(free) apps.

Those are definitely my favorite apps I have.

Thanks for the input, Robert! I’ve tried out Bump and it is fantastic. A very cool and free app. Also, I like the Kindle for iPhone app. It’s very easy to read.. you just have to be prepared to turn alot of pages.

Civilization Revolution looks awesome, and for only $4.99 it is very tempting.

I just found out about Word Ace this morning and it is fantastic. It’s also a free download right now, so I would highly suggest it. It’s a cross between Scrabble and Texas Hold’em.
