Great fun, great cause
Last Wednesday, Katie surprised me by signing us up for something a little out of the ordinary. She had heard about a cool new establishment called Paint-n-Party that was having a special night where $10 of each $35 fee went to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society’s Skipper Fund (read about it here). That just leaves $25 to cover the cost of the materials, and did I mention that there was free food and wine? Needless to say I was very impressed with the cost of the event.
It doesn’t stop there though. In keeping with the theme of the night, it was suggested that participants bring in a picture of their pets to paint. This is very different than many of the group painting classes out there where everyone comes together and paints the same picture, changing only the colors perhaps. I’ll be the first to admit that I had some serious doubts about how the painting would turn out. I’ve never considered myself to be a talented artist in any sense of the word (though I do enjoy the works of those that are). That said, I could not be more pleased with how it turned out.

While I felt like I had the freedom to do what I wanted with the picture, I was very glad to have the help of Kellie Newsome. She made it a very fun learning experience and gave great pointers whenever I was frustrated because I couldn’t quite get it to look like I wanted. In the end I was very pleased with how it turned out.
So what’s next? Well, this coming Saturday night (May 30th, 2009), there will be an art show at Paint-n-Party to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama. The event is free to attend and will have a silent auction of some donated artwork to raise money for the foundation. Also, there will be free food and wine (which has been donated) and I think even live music or a DJ. It is sure to be a ton of fun. It starts at 6PM and lasts til whenever. With it’s location near the 5 points hotspots, it should be very convenient for those going out on Saturday night to stop by for a little bit. It’s for a good cause and is sure to be a lot of fun. You can find out more and RSVP on facebook by clicking here.

Also, if you are interested in doing the Paint for a Cause supporting the Humane Society’s Skipper Fund, they will be doing that the next two Wednesday nights I believe (May 27th and June 3rd). Make sure to check ahead of time though; just send an email to info@myPaintNParty.com or call 205-939-4599.
You guys did a great job! I love the artwork!
