I plan on attending CodeStock 2009

CodeStock is about Community. For Developers, by Developers (with love for SysAdmins and DBAs too!). Last year an idea started at CodeStock to mix Open Spaces within a traditional conference. This year we’re going to crank things up to 11 and rip off the knob – and you’re being drafted to help!

  • Keynote by Microsoft RIA Architect Evangelist Josh Holmes
  • From Developer to Business Owner roundtable with guest Nick Bradbury creator of HomeSite, TopStyle, and FeedDemon
  • 50+ break out sessions + Open Spaces (self-organizing sessions)
  • Grand Prize: VSTS 2008 Team Suite with MSDN Premium
  • Virtual sessions with Jeffery Richter and John Robbins

Space is limited so register today at CodeStock.org

Update: In light of the fact that I have recently started a new job, I will not be able to come to Friday at Codestock.  However, I’m planning on driving up either Friday night or Saturday morning, so I’ll be there all day Saturday.  I must say I’m pretty excited about it though!

My intro to software development

When I chose Computer Science as my major field of study, I had no idea just what exactly that entailed.  I found computers to be especially interesting while in high school, but never experienced anything deeper than at the user level.  I had no idea how computers worked and my only experience programming was in BASIC on an old VTech toy laptop.  Of course, I did not realize at the time that I was, in fact, programming. Gmail finally gets inline images

Ever wanted to add an image to a message in Gmail?  Now you can!  Just follow these instructions from the Gmail blog:

Just turn on “Inserting images” from the Labs tab under Settings, and you’ll see a new toolbar icon like this:

Make sure you’re in rich formatting mode, or it won’t show up. Click the little image icon, and you can insert images in two ways: by uploading image files from your computer or providing image URLs.

BarCampBirmingham is in 3 weeks

If you haven’t heard, BarCampBham3 is May 2nd.  This is going to be my first BarCamp and I must say that I’m very excited about it.  Here is a excerpt from barcampbirmingham.org that better explains what it is all about:

BarCampBirmingham is a user generated conference created around an open, participatory workshop-event, with content provided by participants. Those participating choose the session topics for the day and then present to each other. It’s free. It’s fun. It’s a great way to meet the local technology community.

Lessons learned

If you’ve tried to come to this site in the past week or so, you’ve probably noticed that it has been in various states. At first it may have set off your virus alert program, then maybe it was just the default WordPress template, or maybe it was just blank. The reason for this, as you’ve probably guessed, was because my WordPress install was hacked and I was trying to get things stitched back together. More…
