How to play snake in gmail

Have you ever been checking your email and thought to yourself, “Man, I really wish I could play Snake while I did this?”  Yeah, me neither.  That said, I think it is awesome that some Gmail engineer(s) were able to take some time to work on something fun like this.  Anyways, here is how you can set it up with your account.

There is nothing challenging about this process, but there are a few steps that you have to take.  The first step is to just make sure that you have Keyboard Shortcuts turned on.  Just click on the “Settings” link in the top right corner of the window.  This should bring up a page that looks like what you see in the picture directly below this paragraph.  Then just select the “Keyboard shortcuts on” radio button and don’t forget to click save.

That was easy enough, right?  You’re probably relieved to know that the second and final step is at least as easy.  For the second step, you have to turn Snake on in the Google labs section.  You should be able to see a beaker in the upper right-hand corner of the window (right next to the settings link).  Clicking the beaker will take you to the Gmail lab (or you could just click this link after you have logged in to Gmail).  Then you should be able to find Old Snakey about half way down the page.  Just select the “Enable” radio button and make sure to “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page.

And that is all you have to do.  Now, whenever you want to play snake just go to Gmail and press “&”.  Then just eat as many of the green dots as you can and don’t run into any walls.  The more you eat the faster you go.  My high score so far has been 160.  By the time you get to about 100 points it starts to get very challenging.  If you have broken 200 points let me know in the comments.  And remember, pics or it didn’t happen!
